Record store day
here in ghent, there arent all that many stores left to go recordshopping for an afternoon, as i noticed once again earlier today. just noticed that one of the stores i regulary visited now turned into a clothing store. too bad.
however, a few shops in other cities i can fully recommend as a customer - all run by people who obvously really love the records they’re selling, and actually know what they sound like. and most of them do mailorders as well. ask them.
da capo, utrecht, nl
the place for retro-stuff. they’re best known for their garage 60’s collection, but they still stock an incredible amount of 80’s guitarnoise and 90’s lofi as well. big plus: i once witnessed the owner throwing some people out of the store because they just wanted to buy stuff to flip on ebay.
last stuff i got there: a few old shrimper tapes: virgo rising, wckr spgt and pork queen
distortion, amsterdam, nl
you’ll literally have to find your way through gigantic piles of records - on top of the regular shelves. quite an adventure, but very rewarding. plenty of new experimental stuff, as well as an exquisite cool 90’s stuff.
last stuff i got there: ao 2 comp 7”s on fisheye, a cheapo killdozer cd and the postume 7” by larry dirty.
stormy records, detroit, mi, usa
run by windy and carl, it’s no surprise they have one of the most impressive droneselections i’ve seen. lot’s of second hand items and jazz as well. havent been to the new location yet, but i’d love to go back there.
last stuff i got there: euhm, a windy and carl cd-set…
td’s cd’s and lp’s, bloomington, in, usĀ
behind the counter, you’ll find michael anderson aka drekka. a very eclectic store - the bluesanct-related stuff is all available off course, but also plenty of folk and metal. also: the t-shirts of the store are the coolest ever, and you can eat really good burrito’s in the same building.
last stuff i got there: the one time i visited the store, i remember leaving the store with plenty of records, including an oop mick turner lp. and i mailordered the latest castanets record there because no shop in ghent stocked it within a month after the release date.
