so the new paper issue of the morczine is about to see light of day - and we celebrate this with a sneak peak. the ‘collaborations-issue’ contains an interview with signals, the joint project of chris gowers (of karina esp) phil julian (of cheap machines) and mark beasley (of rothko)
they were kind enough to let us put ‘Quonset’ online (push play above). this four minute long organic sounding hushed improvisation is an outtake from their upcoming album on trace records.
the band started as a collab on the occasion of the placard headphone festival, so we were wondering…
> - Is it best to enjoy Signals while using headphones?
chris: I wouldn’t necessarily say that our music requires headphones for the best listening experience though, sometimes music is enhanced by being projected into a space. But I would suggest that because our music is improvised it has definitely developed from being played in a live setting.
It definitely requires some patience on the part of the listener, luckily so far I think audience members have understood what we’re doing, and have allowed each performance to evolve in its own way.
the full interview is available in a few days in the free zine…
