why end of year lists are redundant

in 2008, i didn’t make an end of year list. no-one asked.
and that’s a good thing, because i wouldn’t have put bird songs by triumph of lethargy skinned alive to death in that list.

i’m familiar with spencer moody’s work as the vocalist of smoke and smoke (him + dan and mike of godheadsilo) and murder city devils. so god knows why i didn’t pick up this tolsatd-record any earlier.

yes, it’s a rock album. at times loud, but mostly minimal in a very spontaneous way. heavy but without trying to be heavy. subtle but rough. experimental but non-intellectual. the guitars often sound silly, but never ridiculous. just one-riff-songs with feedback etc.

moody is definately at his best here in tracks like Demolition man or Jane: howling desperately with a broken voice, without sounding like he’s trying to impress anyone.

as far as i know, tolsatd hasn’t played in europe yet - hope that changes though, this live video shows that could be an amazing event…

this being said: in 2009 people asked me for my end of year lists. they’re up here, and i’m sure i’ll regret my choices in a few months.
